This water treatment system has made life so much easier on the trail and around camp that I sometimes laugh at the old way we used to do things. Many moons ago, we didn’t take a water filter at all. We always tried to get water from fresh running sources and hope for the best. In today’s world, I don’t know if there is a place on earth anymore that you can just stick your head in the water and drink. Well, at least not feel comfortable about it! We eventually started using pump style water filters. They did there job and brought some peace of mind. They also brought a lot of frustration and sore arms. We would always draw straws (in our case, sticks) to see who had to go down to the stream or lake and pump water for the group. It’s not a fun job. It takes forever just to get a liter of water. The filters are usually rated for 500 gallons, which means that we had to replace the filter after every trip. That seems understandable, until you go buy the replacement filter.
